Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has pitched government’s flagship economic and social interventions to Ghana’s diaspora community in Vic, Spain, as part of efforts to deepen external support for the country’s reset agenda.

Acting on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, the Vice President engaged members of the Ghanaian community following her participation in the 4th High-Level Meeting of the Initiative in Defence of Democracy.

She was joined by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Ghana’s Ambassador to Spain, Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe.

The meeting brought together traditional leaders, executives of the Ghana Union and representatives of various Ghanaian associations across provinces.

Addressing the gathering, Opoku-Agyemang conveyed greetings from President Mahama and commended Ghanaians in Spain for promoting a positive image of the country abroad.

She used the platform to outline key developments back home, including measures to stabilise the economy, reduce inflation and maintain fiscal discipline.

The Vice President highlighted government’s broader strategy to transform Ghana into a value-added, production-driven economy under the “Big Push” initiative, positioning it as central to the country’s economic reset.

She also detailed interventions in agriculture aimed at boosting local production and reducing imports, alongside social programmes such as the No-Fees Stress Policy for first-year tertiary students, free sanitary pads for schoolgirls and expanded access to primary healthcare.

Additional initiatives, including the Goldbod programme, the phased implementation of a 24-hour economy and plans to establish a Women’s Development Bank, were also presented as part of efforts to drive inclusive growth.

Opoku-Agyemang expressed appreciation for the reception and urged the diaspora to remain united and actively contribute to Ghana’s development.

She reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening ties with Ghanaians abroad and supporting their welfare.
