Otumfuo Kyeame Kofi Nti has been destooled following deliberations at an Asanteman Council meeting held on Thursday, after he was found to have committed a series of alleged breaches relating to royal duties and traditional protocol.

His removal followed several charges brought before the Council, centred on issues including questions about his royal lineage, alleged misconduct in the handling of the Otumfuo Ntam Kɛseɛ, and complaints regarding his performance as an okyeame.

One of the key concerns raised was related to his claimed royal background, with questions emerging over his ability to properly invoke the Otumfuo Ntam Kɛseɛ, a revered traditional oath within the Asante Kingdom.

He was also accused of hoarding multiple invocations of the Otumfuo Ntam Kɛseɛ beyond what is considered customary for holders of his office, a practice said to be inconsistent with the traditions governing the stool.

Additionally, the Council reportedly found fault with his handling of responsibilities as okyeame, particularly his alleged failure to properly report invocations of the Otumfuo Ntam Kɛseɛ, which is regarded as a significant breach of protocol.

Further allegations presented before the Council by the Ayaasehene, relating to the enstoolment of the Ayaase Dikro, also formed part of the grounds that led to his destoolment.

The developments were concluded during the Asanteman Council meeting, where the decision to relieve him of his position was taken.

The case highlights the Asanteman Council’s continued emphasis on adherence to tradition, accountability, and the proper observance of customary duties within the Ashanti Kingdom.
